The state of Kansas is changing the state assessment cut scores because the scores didn’t tell the whole story about what students know and are able to do, and many who were labeled “not proficient” were excelling.

The Wichita Public Schools’ official student enrollment for the 25-26 school year is 45,075 students.

WPS held its monthly news conference today where Superintendent Kelly Bielefeld discussed a variety of topics including a recap of the Class of 2025 senior survey, the sale of Clark and Payne Elementary Schools, and a preliminary look at enrollment numbers. 

At its September 2025 meeting, the Wichita Public Schools Board of Education passed its 25-26 budget with more than 87% directly supporting students.

The program offers Wichita Public Schools graduates a seamless route to earn their teaching licensure.

The 2025 Distinguished Classroom Teachers were recognized on April 7.

WPS recognized 3rd grade teachers and three middle schools whose students have improved greatly in reading and math.

Wichita Board of Education members elected Diane Albert as President and Melody McCray-Miller as Vice-President for 2025.

More than 300 employees, volunteers and partners were recognized with the Good Apple Award on December 9.
