Earth Club Dance 2010
Earth Club sponsored our dance on February 26. Mr. Perlman, former principal of Earhart, was our guest DJ. All Earhart students were invited. In addition to the dance, materials for making cat and dog toys were provided. Those toys were donated to the Kansas Humane Society. Earth Club raised over $700, which will go in part to the Kansas Humane Society and the rest will go to Earhart.

Spelling Bee 2010

January Earth Club
During Earth Club, we investigated whether paper towels or newspaper did a better job cleaning windows. What we discovered was that newspaper worked better as long as we were indoors. The cold seemed to affect how clean the windows were with newspaper.

Fall Festival 2009

A spooky tradition of Fall Festival is the Spook Walk.

A new addition this year was the jail. The kids loved this new option. They sent their friends to jail, and that person had to get someone to pay their way out. Mr. Waterbury even made an appearance inside the jail.

Of course the games in the classrooms are always loved by all!

A Work in Progress

Thanks to the Dyck Arboretum and Earth Partnership for Schools, Earhart grounds are shaping up. Students, parents, staff and community members have all pitched in to help create outdoor learning sites that can be enjoyed by all. In addition to the beautiful butterfly gardens in front of the school, the courtyards and areas surrounding the building are also being spruced up. Fourteen new trees were added, native prairie plants, a dry river bed and mulch paths are only the beginning of what's in store for our wonderful school! For more information on EPS please visit their website at http://www.dyckarboretum.org/

Learning about the trees in the courtyards is an important part of the beautification process. Mrs. Young has been working closely with a variety of students.

At 3rd grade Fall Camp, students helped Mrs. Young mulch the courtyards. She taught them about decomposition, temperature, and how mulch is used.

Zoo Safari Adventure Day 2009
The Kindergarten through Third grade classrooms participated in the Zoo Safari Adventure Day on Friday, October 9. The classes rotated through centers related to wildlife and culture.

The kids got to chose a name for their group. Although Rachel wanted "The Vipers", the majority won out with "The Monkey's".

Apparently the stationary horse is much harder to ride, than one would assume.

It took all 5 "Monkey's" to subdue this Komodo Dragon.

Fall 3rd Grade Camp 2009
One of the centers at 3rd grade fall camp was an insect scavenger hunt in Hellar's Grove. The kids collected insects using nets and then made observations. It was one of their favorite centers. As you can see, they look really interested in what they found! We had the pleasure of having Brad from Dyck Arboretum teach the center. He has a great wealth of knowledge about the outdoors. The kids really enjoyed having him at camp!
